This program should be updated on regular basis and any changes should be brought into notice of the employees. If the employees have their own respirators, they should get permission of the employer for using the same, provided it is medically safe and does not harm the health of the worker in any way. The respiratory protection equipment should be cleaned, maintained and stored safely by the employees.
A qualified program administrator should be designated to provide training since the program is quite complex. It is the responsibility of the employer to provide respirators, medical evaluations, and training to the employees free of cost. Another responsibility of the employer is the selection of the appropriate respiratory equipment for the specific jobs assigned to the workers. Respirators which are reliable and have high performance should be selected. It is advisable to select NIOSH- certified respirator. The most important responsibility of the employer is to identify and assess the respiratory hazards that are involved in the workplace.
