Forklift Inspection
Forklifts are used to lift the transport material in many industrial workplaces. It can be a dangerous practice since many fatal accidents can occur in the workplaces. Usually the employees get so accustomed to using forklifts that they forget about the hazards that are involved and also to use safety measures. Many of the people involved can get seriously injured or die in the accidents that occur due to a slight error in the wrong operation of these forklifts. There fore it is the duty of the authorities to hold certified inspection for the proper functioning of these.
The employees should be given relevant training for operating the forklifts and they should also take a refresher course for the same after every 3 years. At the start of each shift, the life truck should be properly inspected for any functional problems, if any. If any problem is seen, it should be reported immediately to the concerned department.
Forklift inspection checklist:
Floor should be checked for objects responsible for the cause of occurrence of an accident.
There should be none overhead obstructions.
One should watch out for the objects nearby as you drive away.
There should be a charged fire extinguisher with you.
Engine oil level, radiator water level, fuel level should be checked beforehand.
a securely placed, fully charged battery should be there.
Non-exposed cable wires.
The battery plug connections should not be loose, dirty or worn out.
No missing bolts, guards, nuts, or damaged hydraulic hose.
Air pressure of pneumatic tires should be checked.
All the latches should be in good working order.
The carriage teeth should not be broken, worn out or chipped.
The chain anchor pins should not be bent, worn or chipped.
Check for any spots for drips or leaks.
Hoses are tightly and securely held.
Checklist for operational pre-use inspection:
Horn is in working condition and loud enough so that it can be heard and other warning devices are in working order.
Floor brake, and pedal holds are to be checked so that the truck has a smooth braking.
Parking brake should be held against acceleration if slight.
Clutch and gearshift are smooth.
On the dash control panel, lights and gauges are operational.
A smooth steering.
Lift mechanism should function smoothly.
Hoses and cylinder should not be leaking.
Qualified people should be hired for the maintenance and service of the forklifts.
