Hearing conservation program is designed to protect people from noise induced hearing loss. It is a disorder which is most prevalent among people who are exposed to high intensity sound over a long period of time. It can occur to people of all ages and demographics. It is common among teenagers and youngsters courtesy portable music and audio devices such as walkman and I-pods. Implementation of Hearing Conservation programs has been one of the topmost priorities of CSI and it has made serious efforts in educating people regarding the ill-effects of noise induced hearing loss and other disorders that are caused through noise pollution. However the effectiveness of hearing protection programs is hindered by poor compliance to safety procedures such as using authentic, genuine ear pads and protective gear which is effective in bringing down the intensity of ear pollution. Hearing aids are widely used these days, though it is far from yielding a desirable result in battling against noise induced hearing loss. Workplace standards call for effective use of hearing aids and have put a cap on the noise levels, in order to ensure the safety of workers. If gone unchecked, high levels of noise pollution can cause irritation, deafness and in extreme cases neural disorders as well.
