It is the duty of the employers to see to it that the employees do not suffer hearing loss. It can be permanent. Any noise that is outside the limits to tolerable capacity to the human ears is noise pollution and hearing loss will occur when we are exposed continuously to 85 decibel sound on a regular basis.
For this purpose noise surveys, audiometric testing, hearing protection employee education as well as training and record keeping is a must.
This can be avoided if we follow certain measures:
If the noise is found to be over 85 decibels, it should be reported so that measures are taken to reduce it.
Employees should be provided with hearing protective equipment when it is required.
The hearing equipments should be properly used and cared for. The noise hazardous area should be labeled properly.
Environmental health and safety for materials, processes and equipment changes, which alter exposure to noise, should be notified.
Overexposed employees should be provided with audiometric test before their work assignment.
Use of hearing protective equipment or noise reduction procedure should be enforced.
